Winter 2018 Updates

Hello friends!

As the end of winter approaches, I realize that I have definitely not been hibernating through it.

The last you heard from me, I was gunning for a Rhysling nomination and I am happy to announce that I am indeed on the nominations list! I’m not keeping my fingers crossed for anything more than that, but our small and distant hopes are still important to nourish, if only quietly and in the dark- so that’s what I’m doing.

Additionally, I’ve made some poetry sales, so you’re going to be seeing some more of my work in 2018. I’ll be working with Wild Musette and Polar Borealis again, as well as branching out to some other markets. The first of those is Strange Horizons which is super exciting because they are one of my favourite speculative fiction magazines and having your work in the same place as your idols is a super cool and amazing feeling.

I also feel like I’ve leveled-up as a writer because I’ve had my first contract dispute! Essentially, a magazine had put in a clause stating they would have the rights to license my work in perpetuity for any reason and in any medium. I was like UH-UH NO WAY and crossed that sucker out of the contract with some nice initials beside it. I’m still waiting back to hear what they say but if I do lose the sale I feel like its worth it.

Your ideas and your words are yours and they are important. Don’t give them up lightly, and certainly not for less than you deserve.

Anywho, I’m looking forward to seeing some more of my stuff in print this year and I’m currently working on a chapbook tentatively titled “A Myth of Women” so we’ll see where that goes! In the meantime, if you want to check out my non-fiction writing I post weekly blogs about philosophy over at

2018 Award Eligibility

Hello 2018!

So, um… this year was my 1st year submitting my writing to markets, and I have 2 poems that are eligible for awards!

My two eligible poems are:

“Apologies from the Moon” published through Wild Musette:

“Meat Puppets” published through Polar Borealis (on page 76):

Apologies from the Moon – Wild Musette — December 12, 2017
Wild Musette — November 16, 2017
Updates — October 26, 2017

and sorry for all the silence.

I’m not posting here anymore, as I would like to move on to “real” publishing. My writing is something I do because I love it, but because I love it it is something I want to do more than I currently have time for. This means I need to find a way to monetize it, and spoiler alert: no one pays $$ for things that are already available online for free, and being published on a private blog still counts as being “previously published” for 99% of paying markets. It makes sense, and that’s why I’m not here anymore, I’m still writing, but I can’t share it with you if I want to do something else with it.

In the meantime, I’ve been mildly successful with publishing, and I will keep you guys updated with links to where you can find my work.

Here’s the first piece, “Meat Puppets” which was published through Polar Borealis, you can find it here:

Lots of love,
